No Season 3, Really????

I'm absolutely shocked that this show was dropped, it's confirmation that the people in charge haven't a clue what they're doing.

A very intriguing and interesting introduction to what appears to be the best UFO/Extraterrestrial series since X files/

When this was announced, I was very excited especially with the fact that Robert Zemeckis was involved, and that it would be an actual series based on true events that looked to have great potential with its production quality. After watching the fantastic first thoroughly ENGROSSING episode, I can confirm that imo this is indeed already the best show we've gotten for UFO/Alien subject matter since the timeless early seasons of The X files. While it is heavily influenced from The X files in its structure, tone, and overall delivery, it stands on its own quite well enough to sustain its own identity. The acting is tremendous so far especially from Aidan Gillen and Michael Malarkey, and you really do become enamored with Dr. Hynek's fascinatingly brilliant character. Overall they did a terrific job portraying the true story it was based on with an extremely captivating first episode full of great twists, turns and solid mystery that keeps you wanting another episode immediately. The production quality is excellent with outstanding camerawork, vast settings, and accurate ambience and atmosphere to fit the late 40's/50's timeframe. A series thats definitely worthy of your time more so than most tv series.

Best thing since x files

Love this fictionalized account of Project Blue book ... season 2 is so much better than season 1 ... and season 1 is pretty good.

SERIOUSLY NO SEASON 3

Whats wrong with you people.

Stop being stupid and get on it right now.

Thank you.

I don't want to compare TV shows because everyone likes what they like, but there is some right s--t on TV right now with many seasons.

So my rant out of the way.

Start filming and stop procrastinating.

Looking forward to season 3, I really am.

Characters are all good and established, though some can be more established which would happen in season 3.

Talk to Bezos, FB boy and Gates, and stop making excuses.

Mixed Bag

Overall I'm enjoying this show enough to keep watching it, but part of it might be that I so badly want X-Files to still be on that I'll watch anything that's even remotely in the same vicinity.

I like the premise a lot, and I like the cast. As an "X-Phile" I'm obviously interested in the subject matter. The idea of a show based on the real-life Project Blue Book investigations is intriguing. The historical setting is a nice change of pace.

The problem is that tonally and conceptually, the show is inconsistent. Characters often seem to have multiple personality disorder.

During the course of a typical episode, the two main characters (Aidan Gillen and Michael Malarkey), as well as their immediate superior (Neal McDonough) will vacillate many times between (a) seeming to believe that people are having UFO and alien (and occasionally other Fortean) encounters, (b) seeming to think that the idea of UFO and alien encounters is pure bunk, and (c) being more agnostic about it but seeming to think that their job is (i) ultimately to provide b.s. cover stories for the government, or (ii) ultimately to be subversive and suggest that the government is covering up something.

A lot of screen time that could be spent on investigations is spent on inter-character drama where our stars take turns being on opposing sides of (a), (b), (c)(i) and (c)(ii) above. It becomes confusing. You don't know who is on what side. It's usually not clear what anyone's goal is exactly. And the bosses seem to continually make decisions--including many times that Project Blue Book was going to be closed or at least our investigators fired--that they renege on within 20 minutes.

The pacing and overall aesthetic--even the style of dialogue delivery, reminds me a lot of the video game L.A. Noire, which wasn't exactly a blockbuster, but it had its fans.

With less vacillation, better character focus, more attention on weird phenomena and investigations, and a bit more action this could be an excellent show.

Incredible cinematography + A Great Story = An Enjoyable Hour

I grew up when atom bomb detonations were live television, and UFOs Saturday cinemas. I searched library records for the Keyhoe Report and the History Channel's Project Blue Book echoes the fears and paranoias of the 1950s. I thoroughly enjoy each episode. The accuracy of the settings, the little nuances in the colors and fabrics of the furniture, the sterile feel of military linoleum desks, the clothing, the show's "believability factor" is enhanced by breathtaking cinematography.

In 1967 Madison, NJ when leaving the University library and walking back to the Fairleigh Dickinson University dormitories a light in the sky moved erratically in a very star lit night. It shot forward, stopped, changed directions then disappeared into the sky. Other students saw the same. I telephoned the Morristown airport only to learn they did not have radar.

I sure hope there is a season three.

May the FARCE be with you

Suspenseful? YES!

Mysterious? YES!

Aliens exist? Maybe...maybe not????

I keep wondering what the world was like back in the century of the 1400's in the time when Christopher Columbus wanted to sail across the vast oceans and find a new world. The majority of the worlds' people believed that the world had to be flat and to sail past the sun's horizon a ship would fall off of the end of the world. More recently in the early 1900's songs were sung about reaching for the moon and who can forget that fateful day on July 20th, 1969, when the entire world was literally glued to their black and white television sets to watch that historical moment when American Astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed their spacecraft Apollo 11 on the moon's surface. The following day July 21st, 1969, Neil Armstrong took those first steps on the moon's surface and all the world once again watched in awe.

So although the 1960's were the most amazing technical and scientific time to be alive, there were smut papers and science-fiction movies telling us that aliens were real and they were here on earth already in many forms and disguises to blend in with the general population.

This TV series, Project Blue Book is an attempt to provide its viewers some insight into the early days in the mid 1940's and beyond when the U.S. Intelligence and U.S. Airforce were engaged in gathering intel on unidentified flying objects (UFO's), space aliens, real or imagined. Most rational people believed aliens did not exist and the wild stories were all hoaxes, but go back in time in the 1400's when the world was considered to be flat, or in the 1900's when no one believed a man would ever land on the moon, but here we are.

I was taught to believe in Christmas and Santa Claus and I am a better man for it, as are my own children. I for one will be advising my (now) adult children to watch this mysterious TV series Project Blue Book which most likely has been taking great liberties in the factual events of the U.S. Intelligence and U.S. Airforce events, but it makes for great stories and isn't that the main reason we watch television? To be entertained? I look forward to more episodes of Project Blue Book which has captured my imagination.

I give the series a solid 8 out of 10 rating.

Littlefinger hunts UFOs

I was asking myself why does this guy look extremely familiar? Then it dawned on me, probably the most hated character on Game of Thrones. But I admire Aiden Gillen's ability to make everyone hate his guts. And using that same "Littlefinger" technique is pretty effective at the beginning of this series.

Ironically he plays J Allen Hynek the same way as LittleStinkFinger- for the first few episodes. At first he appears to be going along with the sycophantic blaming of Russians for UFO related events, until we realize he is really not doing that.

His wife on the other hand, played by Laura Mennell (aka Janie Slater of Watchmen), isn't the smartest cookie in the jar. And that is par for most of the parts that Mennell plays, going as far back as a few appearances on shows like Stargate SG1. Especially when Soozy Miller (Ksenia Solo, sister of Han?) magically shows up, sidles and sucks up and makes herself apparently available in a way too convenient manner, and Mimi Hynek not even realize she is being played like a fiddle.

But this is the age of the "red scare" where "Commies" are worse than anything imaginable and the mention of UFOs is an immediate ticket to The nearest rubber room, do not pass go, do not collect 200 doses of Thorazine.

LittleHynek plays against Michael Malarkey a.k.a. Captain Michael Quinn, a relatively new actor. But if we want veteran actors, there are plenty In this show.

What's interesting here is the concept of the show, taking what few events that we know of from project blue book and assembling a mythos around them. Just like The X-Files.

Did I say X-Files? This is a worthy successor or rather Precessor to the X-Files, but where David Duchovny would run around yelling "the sky is falling, the sky is falling! the fix is in! we are all alien fodder" while producing his shiny FBI badge and gun, Littlenek is a little smarter and doesn't reveal his personal beliefs to any of his superiors, and therefore uses his entire time on blue book to assemble a huge amount of information, rather than blurting out what he has and letting agents of the cigarette smoking man and/or Alex Crycek steal all of the evidence.

So Hynek is portrayed as an intelligent man but his wife just babbles and babbles top-secret information to an undercover shill.

Nevertheless, a rather interesting show if you can get by some of the dumbness, but we know the dumbness and stupidity is there in the story because that's how stupid the 40s and 50s were, especially when blaming "Commies" for every problem in the world.

I ran out of bandwidth this month so I can't watch any of the new episodes until after Wednesday or so.

Keep in mind going in, it's NOT a documentary...

I see a lot of reviews on here complaining about the show's historical inaccuracies. Well, it's not supposed to be 100% true to reality. It's a fictional story INSPIRED BY real-life people and events. That being the case, UFO and conspiracy buffs looking for an engaging show with pretty decent production values will probably find it to be an enjoyable watch.

A show for everyone that loves great mystery and good suspenseful drama

Each episode is filmed with detail and the episodes are independent but the overall plot that develops is magnificent and every side plot does have a meaning but the side plot with Mimi and Susie could have been cut down as some parts wasn't necessary. The show is for everyone that has an interest in UFOs or just mystery in small or high capacity, the creators did a remarkable job at creating suspension and mystery regarding something supernatural (aliens) they did a great job in making it realistic and believable, using things like airforce cover-ups and the Russians as a plot point which I'm sure they did in real life. I got hooked on the first episode which was thanks to everyone that worked on the episode from cast to the crew.

The ensemble cast of real people and fiction characters made the show great as you followed Allen Hynek as he was on several cases which is brilliantly played by Aidan Gillen. There is a lot of other actors but the ones that stood out was Michael Malarkey, Neal McDonough, Robert John Burke and Laura Mennell. All the characters are great in their own way, keeping the mystery going. The best recurring role was Michael Imperioli, he just shines in every character he portrays.

Intense drama with sympathetic characters, agendas, and an X-File

Project Blue Book is pretty much the X-Files, weirdly updated 'in reverse', and has the feel of the first episode of the show Taken (2002). I think that's important for readers here. If you love the X-Files you should love Project Blue Book. Although set in the 1940s, it's a wild ride, amazingly similar to X-Files season 1, (the early episodes), though with some characters very similar to Taken, episode one. I've seen 5 episodes now of Project Blue Book, and that's the best description I can give. Let me also say that the special effects, the colour, the lighting, the props, the sets, the camerawork, and general production values are all really high. Casting and acting standards are also high, and anyone would love what they are wearing. The stories, for me, lacked a bit of punch or bedazzle, something a good alien cgi would have helped, but then again I thought the same of the X-File series (though not the movie). Personally I would have liked to have seen more of an alien plot with great dastardly dangers such as they had with Dark Skies (1996), another really good show. I thought a concentration on conspiracy plots, both at home and foreign, was too reminiscent of the X-Files all over again, but then again perhaps there is a grain of truth in the assertion 'based on'. Whatever floats your boat, as they say around here. Project Blue Book is a very worthy addition to what is now a very welcome television tradition. It's an easy and very enjoyable watch for anyone into sci-fi.

Season 2 review

Warning: Spoilers

He even had a personal experience with a UFO in Washington. And still, Quinn refuses to believe what's before him. Harding in a Cover Up - Project Blue Book Season 2 Episode 1

Sometimes it seems that Quinn has finally seen the light -- the events in Washington on Project Blue Book Season 1 Episode 10 should have been enough to change his mind forever -- but he can't stop wavering between whether or not UFOs are real or not.

Quinn also can't seem to step entirely into the idea that the U.S. Government is involved in a major coverup involving UFOs and aliens, even though he'sgotten proof time and time again. But most of that might have to do with his allegience to Gen. Harding.

Quinn owes Harding a lot. Harding was very instrumental in Quinn's career, so he has a certain loyalty to the shady general.

And despite all the doubts swirling around Harding, Quinn isn't ready to turn against the man who holds the strings to his Air Force career.

Even though Quinn isn't a scientist, he's still a man of logic -- kind of like Scully in The X-Files.

No matter what he sees, he's going to believe there's a logical explanation for it.

It's true that many of the cases he and Hynek investigated were proven to be normal explainable occurences and not extraterrestrial ones.

Still, there are many more that made absolutely no logical sense. And when you see a UFO and an alien with your own eyes, as Quinn has many times, how long are you going to deny they exist? Mimi in on the Act - Project Blue Book Season 2 Episode 1

Maybe Quinn is afraid of the truth. Maybe he doesn't want his plumb job with Hynek to end.

And maybe that's why he got romantically involved with Susie -- so that when it does all end, he won't be alone.

That's the thing Quinn fears the most -- being alone -- which is why it's so strange that he can't accept that we aren't alone in this universe.

Hynek, on the other hand, is as giddy as a kid in a candy store.

All the investigations are right up his alley, and he's stringent in his analyses of the cases he investigates, but he'd rather the truth be that UFOs and aliens exist than not.

He is also super keen on sticking it to Gen. Harding. The smarmy General is his least favorite person.

The two had a number of run-ins on Project Blue Book Season 1, and if Hynek can bring the General down, there would be no greater pleasure in his life than to do so.

Hynek has even involved Mimi more deeply in his investigations, which is surprising.

You'd think he'd want to protect her and keep her away from all the possible dangers, but she's not a woman to sit in a corner and play dumb.

She knows what's what in Hynek's world, so instead of fighting her, he probably realized that she might be useful.

But now that she's involved people from a UFO group she belongs to, she's opening up the door to trouble.

Going back to The X-Files, Mimi needs to take up Mulder's motto of "Trust No One." The Secret Box - Project Blue Book Season 2 Episode 1

But Mimi's already let in the stranger, and it will be hard to close the door on the nosy UFO group leader,.

At some point, Harding is going to learn of Mimi's activities, and he'll try to make Hynek's life difficult.

And considering Harding is already in a bad mood trying to clean up the Roswell mess, he's not going to be nice about it.

Besides, he's not a fan of Hynek. He tolerates him, but Harding knows that Hynek likes to dig deep no matter how deep Harding tries to bury his secrets. More than Harding - Project Blue Book Season 2 Episode 1

So, the question of the hour was how many UFO crashes were there in Roswell that night?

And does Hynek believe Harding's story that the crash was a secret spy balloon?

But the biggest question is whether or not Hynek and Quinn will go digging for the alien corpse Conners supposedly buried when one of the crashes happened.

Innovative take on a historic narrative

I love everything about Project Blue Book.

Having read Dr J. Allen Hynek's original book and been familiar with most of the cases portrayed in the tv show, I am finding it rather nostalgic about all he cases I did read. The innovative take on the individual cases and the narrative of the show are refreshing and can show a completely mew generation of people what happened in the volatile 50s & 60s when the Cold War was in full effect and everything was possible. Including Aliens & UFO's.

The cast is excellent. Aiden Gillen (Dr J. Allen Hynek) and Michael Malarkey (Captain Michael Quinn) in particular has great chemistry kind of like a quasi Mulder and Scully mix. One is open to all possibilities, the other is very regimented (Captain Quinn's case his military beliefs as opposed to Scully's science hypotheses).

Season 1 was a great introduction to most of the important cases. Season 2 is elaborating further on we'll known, and some not so well known cases from Dr J. Allen Hynek's case studies.

As I am a UFO/extraterrestrial life believer, I am enthralled for the entire duration of episodes. I like that they don't try to convince that their is extraterrestrial life. It leave it as an option. Like Mulder would say "not outside the realms of extreme possibilities".

I'm looking forward to seeing how the narrative & story evolve in upcoming episodes.

So far so good

I'm reading reviews about it having too many commercials. Just an idea but record it, fast forward through the commercials, problem solved! As for the programme, it has started off pretty darn good, we have our clear Mulder and Scully characters, the smoking man character and there is also a Skinner type fellow! The xfiles it is not, but has potential to tell some very interesting stories with strong performances from the two leads. I am looking forward to future episodes.

A solid series

It keeps you on the edge of your seat, it is beautiful to look at and well acted, absolutely solid entertainment. If you're here for historical facts, I'm sorry but you'll be disappointed, however that is not a reason to rate this series low. It's meant to entertain not educate, rate accordingly!
